MEET THE MUTTS: CAGNEY AND LACEY by Teresa Inge

Cagney and Lacey, two oh-so-cute Yorkies, are the stars of Teresa Inge’s Mutt Mystery stories. They stopped by today for a quick interview.

Tell us your name, breed, and which story you appear in? I’m Cagney. I’m Lacey. We are Yorkshire Terriers who appear in the Mutt Mysteries series, To Fetch a Thief, To Fetch a Scoundrel, To Fetch a Villain, and the upcoming To Fetch a Killer.

Give us four words that describe you and your personality? Curious. Nosey. Protectors. Inquiring.

What is your job in the story? We help our owner/mom Catt Ramsey solve crime and murder in each book. Since our mom has a knack for finding dead bodies, there’s no way we’ll let the killer get away with murder when we are on the case. We consider ourselves doggy detectives!

Tell us about your favorite thing to do? Walk on the Virginia Beach boardwalk with our mom and all the various dogs she walks each day with the Woof-Pack Dog Walkers. Since she always takes us with her, we have lots of friends and love sniffing the ocean breeze.

What do you always help your human with? As we mentioned earlier, we help her solve crime and murder. We also alert her to dangerous situations by barking or jumping and down.

What is your favorite food/snack? We love peanut butter snacks, doggy chews, and biscuits. But overall, we just love to eat! We’re not too picky.

What is something you won’t touch with a ten-foot pole? French Fries! We don’t like fries and won’t eat them. People have tried to sneak them to us when our mom was not looking, but all we do is spit them out. It’s a dog thing.

Where is your special place for napping? In our soft, luxurious beds under the bay window and next to our mom’s desk at the Woof-Pack Dog Walkers. It makes it easy for us to spring into action when our mom is ready to walk the dogs and solve crime and murder. We join in.

What do you do when your humans aren’t home? Sleep, drink water, and watch Animal Planet and Scooby-Doo! Oh…and we listen out for any foul play that comes our way.

Do you have a secret vice? (Don’t worry, we won’t tell your humans). No vices, but we love hanging out with our mom and solving cases.

SNEAK PEEK: "Sandy Paws" by Maria Hudgins

C HAPTER O NE T he beach rental house called the Osprey’s Nest was full of summer guests and should have been full of laughter and music but it wasn’t. It was dead quiet. In fact, it looked a bit like Gettysburg the day after the battle. In the big central living room people lay on the floor, sprawled across sofas, slouched in leather recliners, and slumped over laptop computers with hands hovering over keyboards. Crumpled paper dotted the floor. Glasses of iced tea and bottles of beer sat forgotten on tables. Flip-flops were scattered randomly around the room, but the people weren’t dead. They were writers. They called themselves the Sand Fiddlers Writers Group and this was the week of their annual retreat. Sophie Perone, author of the popular Mysterious Gourmet books, had volunteered to do all the cooking and on this morning, Sophie had arranged her special cheese straws in tall glass tumblers and placed them all around the room so the writers could snack on them while they we
