“PAWSITIVELY SCANDALOUS” by Jayne Ormerod
What’s with the crime wave in the Grant’s Garden neighborhood? First a respectable member is arrested for crimes unknown, then another neighbor dies under mysterious circumstances. Pilar Pruitt and her black Lab/mix Natti are on the case, and the secrets they uncover are paws-itively scandalous!

We asked Jayne where she found inspiration for this story:
When I needed a “scandal” for this story, I threw a couple of ideas against the wall. The one that stuck was based on an event that had happened when I was a young girl. One of the council members of my small town was hauled off to jail. The FBI swooped in and confiscated all his files. My parents whispered about that for weeks. I always wondered what the man had done, and, more importantly, what had been in those files? Sometimes a tiny seed of an idea is all writer needs to kick her imagination into high gear. “Pawsitively Scandalous” is the result.

  1. Oh, my! That you remembered that scandal from your childhood was key. Your description of community reaction to a resident's arrest in "Pawsitively Scandalous" was interesting to read; now I know you've lived through the swirl of community shock and whispers.

You and your wife Kathy have traveled the road from your roles as rural Virginia parents to that of parents of two professional baseball athletes. Your older son Justin plans to continue his MLB career once we reach our “new normal” in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Your first book, Rocks Across the Pond (2012), is a beautiful, grand book. I say grand because it is large, like a coffee table book. The subtitle says it all: “Lessons Learned. Stories Told.” Dogs seem to be part of those lessons. The Mutt Mysteries authors learned you were authors and dog lovers. You’ve met other RVA writers on your trips to talk to children at schools. It’s through one such author that I connected with you, and we are grateful that you and Kathy wrote the foreword to the newest Mutt Mysteries book, To Fetch a Scoundrel . Your first book gave readers a look at your lives. Your secon...
