DEAR SANTA PAWS, Holiday Wish Lists from our Mutts, by Disney and Riley (via author person Heather)

Dear Santa Paws,

We’ve be exceptionally good this year for Jack Russell Terriers. We moved to our new house in the woods, and we LOVE all the squirrels and birds that we get to chase. We have a big yard, and we can see anyone coming onto the cul de sac from all the windows. The new place has trails, and we get to go on more walks than ever! Riley is the Director of Security, and he takes his job seriously. He guards our house from bikers, walkers, delivery folks, and squirrels. I like the delivery drivers, especially the pizza guy. I’m the Greeter. My job is to welcome everyone (except the squirrels).

This year, we’d like a really cool chewy bone and some more squeaky toys. Riley pulls the squeaker out of all the ones we have. We would also like for you to help our wonderful friends at the Richmond Animal League clear the shelters for the holidays. There are so many puppies and kitties that need a great home. And we want all our four-legged friends to find their fur-ever home.

You are the greatest. Riley and I will be in our best behavior and try not to sample the cookies the hoomans leave out for you on Christmas Eve. It’s hard to resist cookies. We’ll try our best.

Many Thanks and Hugs and Kisses,

Disney (and Riley)

  1. Fun letter from Jack Russell terriers to Santa! Sounds like they have been good and will get treats. Riley is the security guard, Disney is the greeter in their new house in the woods--never a dull moment, I'm sure. Unless it is nap time . . .

I’m Cloud, the loyal and brave miniature poodle in “Ruff Goodbye." I’m light gray and fluffy; no “show cuts” for me! My human, Curtis Powell, promised me I’d never have to sport a Continental Clip, Lamb Clip, Lion Cut, Cupcake Cut, or any of those varied, yet typical, poodle dog salon special “hairdos.” Nope, the dog show circuit was not for us. Don’t get me wrong, those canines work very hard, and well, they look fantastic. That’s just not for us. I look more like the second image I’ve sent with this interview. My favorite human, Curt, has died of cancer as “Ruff Goodbye” unfolds, and you get to meet me and other characters as the community mourns his death. My next favorite humans are Curt’s stepdaughter Julie and his wife Sharon. Curt’s friends know me, and in the story my barking alerts them to problems. I defend Sharon whe...
